Superiority by a Margin Tests for Two Means using Differences

چکیده
This procedure computes power and sample size for superiority by a margin tests in two-sample designs in which the outcome is a continuous normal random variable. Measurements are made on individuals that have been randomly assigned to one of two groups. This is sometimes referred to as a parallel-groups design. This design is used in situations such as the comparison of the income level of two regions, the nitrogen content of two lakes, or the effectiveness of two drugs.

Improving Chernoff criterion for classification by using the filled function
Linear discriminant analysis is a well-known matrix-based dimensionality reduction method. It is a supervised feature extraction method used in two-class classification problems. However, it is incapable of dealing with data in which classes have unequal covariance matrices. Taking this issue, the Chernoff distance is an appropriate criterion to measure distances between distributions. In the p...

متن کاملA unifying approach to non-inferiority, equivalence and superiority tests via multiple decision processes.
Two approaches of multiple decision processes are proposed for unifying the non-inferiority, equivalence and superiority tests in a comparative clinical trial for a new drug against an active control. One is a method of confidence set with confidence coefficient 0.95 improving the conventional 0.95 confidence interval in the producer's risk and also the consumer's risk in some cases. It require...
متن کاملInferences for Ratios of Normal Means
Inferences concerning ratios of means of normally distributed random variables or ratios of regression coefficients arise in a variety of problems in biomedical research. For example, in tests for non-inferiority of one or more experimental treatments against a positive control, it is often easier to define and also to interpret the non-inferiority margin as percentage changes (or fraction reta...
متن کاملNon-Inferiority Designs in A/B Testing
Most, if not all the current statistical literature on online randomized controlled experiments, (commonly referred to as “A/B Tests”), focuses on superiority designs. That is, the error of the first kind is formulated as incorrectly rejecting a composite null hypothesis of the treatment having no effect or having a negative effect. It is then controlled via a statistical significance threshold...
